Sadly, summer is coming to a close. On the bright side, Labor Day is Monday which means barbeque, the outdoors, friends and family!
As a supplement to traditional barbeque fare, try grilling fruit if you haven’t tried it yet. It’s my latest craze. Grilling really bring out their natural sugar and allows the surface to caramelize beautifully. Firmer fruits can be a great choice because they tend to hold together better. No need to remove the fruit skin because it is healthy and helps hold the grilled fruit together.
On Sunday, I grabbed strawberries from my local farmers’ market. They were far too beautiful to pass up. The price was equally attractive – about $2.50 a basket for organic strawberries and if you buy in bulk they are even less.
The Grilled Balsamic Strawberries recipe below is super easy to make. It’s just 3 ingredients and takes only about 10 minutes. One thing that I recommend is cooling the berries for about 10 minutes afterward to allow them to marinate in the balsamic. It’s especially great on a grilled piece of chicken or fish.

Glazed Balsamic Strawberries
8 oz strawberries, chopped
3 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp. sugar
Prepare the barbeque for grilling. In a small saucepan, heat vinegar over low heat for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Add chopped strawberries and sugar to pan and toss with balsamic vinegar. Once strawberries are evenly coated, place them on a sheet of aluminum foil, flipping sides of foil to create an edge. Grill over medium heat until the sugar caramelizes, about 5-8 minutes.
