Parsnip Chips

Thumbnail image for Parsnip Chips June 11, 2011

This recipe caught my eye over the winter as I was paging through one of my Irish cookbooks. I meant to post the recipe during the winter months but these lovely bites are great any time of year. I added a little side of vinegar to give the chips a little kick and that boardwalk [...]

A World of Flavor at CIA: Brazilian Palm Puree, Homemade Italian Pasta & Vietnamese Veggie Curry

Thumbnail image for A World of Flavor at CIA: Brazilian Palm Puree, Homemade Italian Pasta & Vietnamese Veggie Curry April 3, 2011

I spent last weekend in Napa cooking in the beautiful kitchen of The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). A conference was being held by a subgroup of the American Dietetic Association so the group was mainly comprised of culinary dietitians. The theme was “Passport to Flavor: A World Cuisines Culinary Workshop.”

Leek Champ

Thumbnail image for Leek Champ March 28, 2011

Throughout the month of March, I’ve been reading the few Irish cookbooks I own and paying special attention to traditional Irish ingredients in honor of my Irish heritage. I’ve been really inspired by the stories and traditions I’ve learned through these recipes and I plan to incorporate pieces of Irish cuisine into my cooking repertoire. And [...]

Thumbnail image for Winning Wonton Cups for Super Bowl Sunday January 25, 2011

Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner. February 6th to be exact. Green Bay Packers versus Pittsburgh Steelers. My last blog post was dedicated to my godmother. It’s only natural I dedicate this post to my godfather. The Pittsburgh Steelers are my godfathers’ favorite sports team of all time. He’s a fanatic. His still [...]

Coconut-Cashew Red Quinoa

It may be the dead of winter but I’ve been craving Thai flavors lately. Yes, that’s right. I’m fantasizing about sunbathing on a tiny island somewhere in the South Pacific sipping a Mai Thai. Sadly, a Thai-inspired dish will have to do for now. As I mentioned in a previous post, quinoa is classified with [...]

Red Lentils with Stewed Tomatoes

Thumbnail image for Red Lentils with Stewed Tomatoes January 5, 2011

One of my new year resolutions is to work on my memory. Somehow I have forgotten big pieces of my past. And this really saddens me. My hubby is always like, “remember when…?” And I stare blankly back at him, honestly not a trace of memory. He kind of gets annoyed, I can see it. [...]

Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup

I promised myself I wouldn’t fall into the Christmas frenzy trap this year. So much for that. If only I was a better planner. Is there an award for most skilled holiday procrastinator? If there is, I think I definitely deserve that award. But I have finally put together my Christmas menu! And I’m sharing [...]

Pan-Roasted Sprouts with Caramelized Onions & Pecans

Thumbnail image for Pan-Roasted Sprouts with Caramelized Onions & Pecans November 21, 2010

There are two camps of people: those who like Brussels sprouts and those who do not. I’ve always liked them. Well maybe I shouldn’t say always. I never really had them growing up. We were more cabbage eaters, being Irish and all. But I find that many who don’t like them as adults were traumatized [...]

Festive Slaw in Champagne Vinaigrette

Thumbnail image for Festive Slaw in Champagne Vinaigrette November 18, 2010

Thanksgiving in sneaking up on us. I’ve been seeing plenty of turkey, stuffing, and potatoes recipes flying around but not too many veggie recipes, at least the non-starchy ones. And sure, there might me a green salad on the Thanksgiving table but sometimes my palate is looking for more.

Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce

The last few days have been dedicated to spending quality time with my sister. She’s visiting from New Jersey. No joke, my abs were sore from sharing so many laughs with her. It’s been a long time since we’ve had such special bonding time together. I don’t know when the next time will be, or [...]

Fall Flavors & Coconut Pumpkin Soup

Thumbnail image for Fall Flavors & Coconut Pumpkin Soup October 30, 2010

I apologize for being rather quiet lately. It’s been a little while since my last post. Recently, I visited friends and family in New Jersey and New York. There, the season of fall is flourishing, though we did get one or two unseasonably warm days. As much as I love the temperate climate of the [...]

Fried Green Tomatoes

It may be late September but tomato season is still flourishing in the San Francisco Bay area. Last weekend, I attended a tomato bash so tomatoes have definitely been on my mind lately. California is so fortunate to have a long growing season for tomatoes. Back home in New Jersey, the growing season is gone [...]

Baba Ganoush

At the farmers’ market the other day, I picked up a few beautiful Rosa Bianca eggplants. They are Italian, small in size, and tender. Their color is amazing – bright purple hues with marbled white mixed in. They are known for their mildly delicious taste.
