My mind is on chocolate. I eye up the fresh figs on my kitchen counter that I picked up at the farmers’ market. Hmm. I’ve never had chocolate and fig together. I’ve also never added fig to a smoothie before but it can’t be bad considering figs are sweet, nutritious, and not particularly overpowering. They also have a lovely little texture that could also add to the smoothie’s smoothness.
In the kitchen I go, experimenting with a few different batches of smoothies. I begin testing varying amounts of fig, milk, ice, and cocoa. I have a knife in one hand, spatula and measuring cup in the other. Assuming I have something that resembles a frantic look on my face, my friend says to me, “You look like a mad scientist.” I dismiss his comment.
And then it happens. I’ve finally met the ultimate chocolate fig smoothie. This smoothie is rich and chocolatey, yet healthy and you’d never know it. It makes a great après-sport (post-workout) beverage in the summer heat to replenish and refresh. It’s simply delicious. Hope you enjoy it!
