I am in the mood for something sweet. Is it chocolate craving? Is it something else?
My mind is on chocolate. I eye up the fresh figs on my kitchen counter that I picked up at the farmers’ market. Hmm. I’ve never had chocolate and fig together. I’ve also never added fig to a smoothie before but it can’t be bad considering figs are sweet, nutritious, and not particularly overpowering. They also have a lovely little texture that could also add to the smoothie’s smoothness.
In the kitchen I go, experimenting with a few different batches of smoothies. I begin testing varying amounts of fig, milk, ice, and cocoa. I have a knife in one hand, spatula and measuring cup in the other. Assuming I have something that resembles a frantic look on my face, my friend says to me, “You look like a mad scientist.” I dismiss his comment.
And then it happens. My lips finally meet the ultimate chocolate fig smoothie.
This smoothie is rich and chocolatey, yet healthy and you’d never know it. It makes a great après-sport (post-workout) beverage in the summer heat to replenish and refresh. It’s simply delicious. Hope you enjoy it!
